For all divisions, riders who successfully complete their distance receive a plaque with: American River Classic, the year, distance and goodluck horseshoe.
Top ten on the 50 milers receive specially marked plaques with their top ten placing. Best Condition horses receive a custom made blanket with the award, BC, and the year embroidered on it.
Junior riders receive a special award. In years past it has been a leather halter with brass plate with the year and distance ridden.
This year, those 50 mile riders who choose to participate in the Pioneer Division will have special recognition on their finishing plaques as Pioneer riders.
The Pioneer riders may also dually compete for the Barsaleau Cup, where the first Pioneer horse carrying 165 pounds with tack that "demonstrates the willingness and ability to go on" (Dr. Barsaleau) will be awarded the Barsaleau Cup Blanket. This is in the spirit of Dr. Barsaleau's adage, "One Horse, One Rider, One Trail."
The horse and rider team who are recognized for the Barsaleau Cup will have their name, their horse's name, year, ride and location engraved on the perpetual trophy that will be displayed in a prominant location in Auburn, California.
Those riders who don't finish get hugs and condolences from our wonderful volunteer staff, and reap the benefits of hospitality from ride management with a lift for them and their horse back to Auburn Overlook.
